Global Citizen Year uses the power of a deep, global immersion to unlock curiosity, conviction and courage in our next generation leaders.

For over a decade, Global Citizen Year has been the leader in pioneering a new path from high school into young adulthood. We’ve worked with over 1,000 diverse and exceptional young people, shaping their values, perspectives and skills in ways classroom learning alone cannot.

We offer two distinct leadership experiences for young changemakers:

The Fellowship: For the equivalent of an academic year, Global Citizen Year Fellows experience life for the global majority, living with a family in a community in Brazil, Ecuador, or India and apprenticing with local efforts advancing education, health, and sustainability. Over the past decade, the Fellowship has launched more than 1,000 young changemakers. While we’ve suspended our 2021-22 Fellowship in response to the global pandemic, we couldn’t sit on the sidelines when the world needs us more than ever.

The Academy: In 2020, we launched Global Citizen Year Academy, a semester-long leadership experience designed specifically for this unprecedented moment. Students take leadership courses on Minerva’s cutting edge active learning Forum, have access to a mentorship directory and opportunities to do meaningful volunteer work, and learn from a speaker series including luminaries such as Melinda Gates, DeRay McKesson, and Seth Godin. Through Global Citizen Year Academy, we’re helping our next generation leaders find their purpose, their people and their power to change the world.
