Purpose of the Position:

The Senior Research Impact Officer supports the impact agenda of CIFAR’s research programs. Reporting to the Senior Director of Research and taking the intellectual direction from the research programs’ interests, this position works to strategically develop, execute, and evaluate an array of activities that advance a range of programs’ research impact and knowledge mobilization efforts, including the engagement between programs and key stakeholders. 


Develop and implement knowledge mobilization plans, including delivery of associated knowledge mobilization activities for CIFAR research programs:

  • In collaboration with the (Senior) Director(s) of Research, develop and implement knowledge mobilization plans that are aligned with research interests and directions of CIFAR research programs. 
  • Periodically conduct landscape analysis and stakeholder mapping to understand key stakeholder communities and major players (e.g., relevant knowledge users and potential partners) identifying key knowledge users in Canada and priority countries worldwide.
  • Support the identification and execution of new knowledge mobilization engagement opportunities that align with a program’s five-year research plans.
  • Liaise with program members and external partners to coordinate logistics and other planning activities related to knowledge mobilization activities, including but not limited to roundtable discussions with industry representatives and policy makers, ensuring efficacy of knowledge mobilization meetings and events. 

Develop and execute program-level knowledge transfer strategies:

  • Support the development of a program-level knowledge transfer and communication strategy to advance each programs’ research impact agenda and knowledge mobilization plans.
  • Identify and execute on opportunities to engage target audiences around strategic publication pieces to further the reach and impact of CIFAR research programs.
  • Implement and evaluate opportunities to advance the uptake of CIFAR research program breakthroughs through written materials and other audience engagement opportunities.

Conduct analysis of regularly gathered qualitative and quantitative information to assess program growth and evolution.

Provide project management support for and input to periodic program-level case studies.

Education/Experience required:

  • A combination of a research-focused graduate degree (Masters) and 2 years of work experience, or a Ph.D. and 1 year of work experience in a research administration and/or scientific communication setting is required.
  • Knowledge of the international research community is an asset.
  • Bilingualism is an asset.

Core Professional/Technical Knowledge & Skills required for the position:

  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Strong project management skills 
  • Experience with research administration and knowledge of the university sector
  • Familiarity with knowledge mobilization approaches and research metrics
  • Experience designing, conducting, and analyzing data from both quantitative and qualitative research efforts
  • Computer skills, including G-Suite, SurveyMonkey Apply, Salesforce/Lighting, and other database management tools. Familiarity with SPSS, social network analysis, and data visualization software (e.g., Tableau) would be an additional asset
